And the Craziness Continues

So okay, yep, mission life is still insane.

On Wednesday, we traveled a ton. We went to Jyväskylyä for District Meeting and it was definitely the best District Meeting of my entire mission. Our District Leader had us do a role play where we showed the new Christmas Video and then committed someone to baptism. WELL IT WAS AMAZING and we actually used it this week and IT WORKED! So that was really cool!

We then went home for a little bit, and then went back to Jyväskylä. The way that all our schedules worked out was that we had to go there twice in one day. But I'm not complaining, it was a blast. We had exchanges there with Sister Bradbury and her trainee Sister West. This was the most amazing exchange that I've ever been on. Seriously, I learned soooo much from those sisters.

I was with Sister Bradbury and she took me contacting to her favorite spot in Jyväskylä. It is by the edge of this beautiful lake overlooking the most picture perfect thing you ever did see. It was about 7:30 at night and the lake was frozen and a storm was coming in. It was absolutely perfect. I started crying when I had the realization that my mission is quickly coming to an end. Luckily, Sister Bradbury knew exactly what to say to me in that moment and she helped me soo much. My feet are definitely still here in Finland, but I'm realizing that they won't be much longer. So I will definitely be focusing even harder and taking advantage of every moment I have here.

We had our Ward Christmas Party this past weekend and it was a blast! They wanted us missionaries to do a skit so Sister Adams and I were in charge of creating a skit for us eight missionaries to do. Four our skit, we decided that we would "get ready" for the party. So we had the senior companions get ready, while their arms were tied behind their backs, the junior companions then knelt behind us and pretended to be our arms. Sister Adams put my make up on, one set of Elders shaved faces, one combed hair and made a sandwich, and the other sisters wrapped presents. It was pretty funny and the whole ward had a ball with it :) 

We had exchanges yesterday here in our area and it was a blast! We taught some great lessons and talked to some really cool people. I learned a lot about how when you do your planning and everything you can, then (when you are in the moment of a lesson) the Spirit will help you to know exactly what they need to hear and what you need to hear as well. It's really amazing.

I'm definitely not creative this week..

Hey Everyone! So this week I'm sorta brain dead so I'm not going to be able to come up with an interesting title for this email..

We've been really busy this past week. We went to Helsinki for MLC on Thursday and Friday. It was a great meeting, as always. We had a lot of things to talk about and it was really so much fun. Sister Adams had her first real moment as a Sister Training Leader when President Watson calls all the STL's and ZL's into his office 10 minutes before the meeting starts and says "Elders and Sisters, you are going to be teaching most of this meeting today... Here's your assigned topics..." He then said "There's no need to worry, you've got 10 minutes to prepare." Elder Johnson, Elder Andreason and I just all looked at each other and laughed (Sister Clark will totally get this) because President did this to us last transfer when he told us "you have a whole day to prepare for the role play." So it was pretty funny. Sister Adams was kinda freaking out, and I'm not going to lie, I didn't really know what to say either, but it all went well and we think that the District Leaders got what we were trying to teach.. Hopefully.. ha

We also went to the temple while we were there and it was amazing! While we were there my Bishop from Marjaniemi and his wife were in the session with us. ALSO one of my bestest friends I made in Marjaniemi was there as well. It was so amazing to see them again. I definitely cried. Last weekend I also saw some of the best members in all of Finland, from Marjaniemi, and it was one of the most amazing experiences.

Yesterday we had exchanges with the Sisters from Turku! ELI I got to be with Sister DuPaix again! It was like a dream come true! Seriously it was amazing! We were teaching one of our recent converts yesterday, and we had one of the most amazing lessons I've ever had on my mission. The Elders were giving a Sister a blessing and they needed someone else to be with them, so they asked if we would be at the church and we were going to be so we told them we could come with them. We thought it would be a great experience for our Recent Convert because he really didn't know about blessings and such. We explained what was going to happen and everything. We got back to our lesson afterwards and let me tell you, I'm 100% sure that it was the exact lesson he needed at the time. Seriously it was insane. It really turned into one of the most sacred lessons I've ever had. I really wish I could explain what happened, but I can't.. It was just a really special experience.

What a week!

Sooo seriously, my life is insane. Ha thats all.

Its been quite the week here :) We started it off with a trip to Jyväskylä for District Meeting. There were a lot of changes in the mission this past transfer and we now go to Jyväskylä once a week for District Meeting. So we went there and came back this past Thursday. And we went yesterday for District Meeting again.

We've had a lot appointments and its been quite fun getting Sister Adams adjusted to being a Sister Training Leader. She's been quite surprised (just like me) at how much we actually do. Its been really fun to watch :)

Sister Adams and I are doing really well. Its been soo much fun to catch up on the past year and see how we've both grown and changed in our time in Finland. Its been really fun because we realized that it was like coming home to an old friend that you haven't seen in a long time, since we are the oldest friends we have out here right now. It's been a really cool experience.

The church came out with a new Christmas Initiative called "Light the World" eli "Valoa Maailmaan" Its pretty much the most amazing thing I've ever seen. I cry every time. Since I'm a Sister Training Leader when we were in Helsinki for MLC a couple of weeks ago, President Watson showed us the video before it was released. As soon as the video ended we all turned to President to see what he would say, and he looked at us with tears in his eyes and simply said "This will make the difference." 

I know that this will make the difference. That as we all share this video with all those we know, this will make the difference. Not just in my mission, but throughout the world. This will change the face of missionary work. I know it. I'm soo grateful to be serving a mission at such a pivital time in the world. Its been such a blessing to serve my Heavenly Father.

And Changes Came Again..

Well everbody... DRUM ROLL PLEASE! I'm staying in Tampere for another 9 weeks! My new companion is actually a former companion! I'm going to be with Sister Adams again! Eli.. MY MTC COMPANION! I'm actually really sooo excited! Its going to be such a fun next transfer! Sister Clark is going home, expected, and Sister DuPaix is off to Turku! I'm really excited because I still get to see her a bunch and go on exchanges with her :)

Well, this week was quite the adventure! We were finally in our area for a whole week and let me tell you, its amazing how the Lord blesses us when we take advantage of the short time that we have. We saw sooo many miracles this past week. We found 4 new investigators and one of them set a baptismal date! 3 of them are from India so thats pretty legit :)

This week we had one of our investigators come to a baptismal service for the cutest little Mummo you ever did see (minus mine, she's the cutest:)) and it was really soo cool! He really enjoyed it! He even gave the lady who was baptized a hug :) Adorable! Then another member invited him to church the next day and he ended up coming! THEN one of our recent converts totally did a fantastic job inviting him to other classes and explaining what the classes themselves are. It was really cool because this recent convert has only been a member for like 2 months and he's pretty shy, so it was a huge miracle!

We've really just had probably the weirdest most un-normal week ever, but it was such a blessing. We keep telling each other just how blessed this week truly has been. With finding members to all of our lessons, and all the little finding miracles we saw, it was truly an amazing week.

Craziest Week of my Mission

So yes! This as probably the most insane week ever! Last Monday we went to Helsinki for MLC. We were there all Tuesday and we got to go the temple again :) It was so great!

We had to get up at 3:45 on Wednesday because President needed to catch a flight which left at 6, so we all had to be out of the Mission Home by 5.. So we get up at 3:45, leave the Mission Home at 5, catch a train at 6, get back in Tampere at 8, get home at 9, then we have apartment inspections, and we then leave to Zone Meeting at 10:15 so we can get everything set up. Our meeting starts at 11, and its my first Zone Meeting as an STL, and President gave us 1 day to learn our Role Play that Sister Clark and I have to demonstrate for the whole Zone.. And I'm like already freaking out because its just like my first one and its scary.. But I guess it worked out well and people couldn't even tell that I was freaking out.

So we get home and we have studies. We then have to go to the train station because we were leaving to Lahti for exchanges. Well the buses were a half hour late, and the other Sisters couldn't pick up Sister DuPaix so we ended up missing our train to Lahti.. With the stress of no sleep and missing our train setting in, we took a little break to breathe ansd figure out our new game plan.. It ended being okay and we got on a later train to Lahti that night.

We had exchanged in Lahti on Thursday and it was probably the coolest exchanges I've ever been on. First off, I got to be companions with Sister Thayne! We've dreamed of being companions since my first District Meeting 1 year ago. She's been my mission role model and I was soo grateful to get to spend exchanges with her!

I also had the chance to go on a lesson with a member who is a really great family friend. She knows my Dad from his mission and it was so cool to talk with her and see how much of an impact my Dad has made in her life. I really hope that in 30 years when one of my kids comes to Finland on a mission that I will have left an impact on the members here, just like my Dad..

We got back Friday morning, had Weekly Planning, and went to the train station again, this time to pick up the Jyväskylä Sisters to come to our area for exchanges. Those were a blast as well because I got to be companions with Sister Bradbury again! It was so fun to think back on our Kuopio days and be right back at it. Such a blast! They left Saturday night.

Today's been insane because one of the other Tampere Sisters has been sick, so we've been going back and forth between their house to make sure that everything has been taken care of. Its insane.

Despite all the hecticness of this week, it was a great week! Such a fun exciting week!

Talvi Tuli!!!

YAYYY!!! WINTER HAS COME!! There is snow on the ground and we are averaging about -6 to -9 degrees during they day! It's here! ITS MAGICAL! YAY! I love winter more than anything so this is exceptionally amazing! Haha

This week was another busy week here in Tampere. We traveled up north to Vaasa this past week! I finally got to the place that my trainer always talked about! And let me tell you, VAASA IS AMAZING. It was the coolest thing ever! There were moments that I felt like I was in training again because like half of our contacts were in Swedish and I don't speak that. At all. I was soo impressed when Sister Parker whips out "Vi är fron Jesu Kristi Kyrka af Sista Dagars Heliga. Vi pratar om Kristus, will du lära dig mer?" Yep. On the bright side, I learned how to contact in Swedish! Now I just need to find a Swede and try it out! Ha Its insane. 

We also had Stake Conference these past couple of days. It has been so fun to hear from our leaders and be able to learn from them. It was also really weird because this is my third Stake Conference on my mission but it was my first one away from Helsinki. We heard from President and Sister Watson which is always amazing! I love Sister Watson's talks because I feel like I always learn the most from her. Her talks always speak to me.

The one she gave yesterday was about anchoring ourselves to Christ. Always so good. It was a really amazing talk and along with all of my personal studies lately it fit really well into it. 

We are heading down to Helsinki tonight for MLC (Mission Leaders Conference) tomorrow. It should be a great meeting :)

I almost killed a cat this week...

Yep, folks, its true. I almost totally killed a cat this week.. Oops.. We'll get to that in a minute :)

But first, I HAVE THE FLU! YAYY! Its been about a week now which is so lame.. We had to get flu shots a couple of weeks ago, and I cried the whole time. YES I am 20 years old and YES I am still terrified of shots. But the flu shot did absolutely nothing for me and so now I'm bummed I had to go through that and still get the flu. Oh well. I was TOTALLY WIPED on Wednesday but we had to go to Turku for exchanges with the sisters there so I pulled together my bestest-acting-self and never let them know I was slightly dying inside. Ha on the bright side now, I can't talk, so I don't really know if that's a bright side or not... But its happening..

Now the story about the Cat. Well, I was in Turku and Sister Barrus and I were contacting on a bus. We were sitting in the spot with two other seats facing us. The lady we are talking to has her cat sitting next to her on the seat and then all of the sudden the bus driver SLAMS (and I means SLAMS) the brakes AS HARD AS HE CAN. I launched out of my seat and literally fly over to the seat across from me. I know there is a cat right there so I try to not kill it, but my doing so I end up flying and falling right on my face in the middle of the aisle. Yep. Totally biffed it. So cool. Meanwhile, as I'm in the air, Sister Barrus ends up flying and sitting on the woman's laps that we are contacting. We definitely got off the bus quickly after that and laughed the whole way home. Ha I came out with a great battle wound of this super nasty bruise on my knee. So yeah, totally worth it.

Yesterday we brought the Tampere 2 Sisters into our area and it was full of MIRACLES! I love seeing hard work pay off :) Its just so great to have time to just actually work in our area. We were able to go tracting in like the biggest apartment complex I've ever seen, and we met some amazing people! Gah! The miracles!

It was a great week and I'm excited for this next week!

A Week at the Mission Home!

Hey Everyone! What a great week I had over here in Finland! 

We went down to Helsinki to spend a week at the Mission Home for a lot of training! IT WAS SOOO GOOD! Seriously, President Watson is amazing! We were soo blessed to spend four days learning from him and it was just everything I needed! 

We talked so much about faith and how it can help us in our lives here and once we go home. It has really been so weird to hear people talk about "life after the mission" because I'm actually getting to the point where that's like something to think about. Soo weird. But I learned soo much about how to improve the way I do missionary work and how I can help others. It was so cool!

We also got to go to the temple again. WHICH WAS AMAZING AS ALWAYS! Seriously every time I go, I feel my Heavenly Father's love again and again and it really is just what I need to keep going. There is a special spirit there that you really can't get anywhere else. I am reminded when I go just how amazing our Heavenly Father is and how He really does have this amazingly perfect plan for each and every one of us, that through Christ and His atonement, all is possible. We are able to have everything made okay through our Savior. It was just a really special experience in the temple this week. WE ARE SOO BLESSED TO HAVE A TEMPLE IN FINLAND! And to make it fun, we went on the 10th Anniversary of the dedication! So fun to be IN the temple that I watched be dedicated 10 years ago in Salt Lake! So cool! 

Anyway! It's been a great week! We haven't been in Tampere that much, but yesterday we finally had the chance to go finding. I think we've gone finding like 3 times since I've been here, so it was really nice to just have the time to talk to people! Who would have ever guessed that you could miss finding people soo much!

Another Crazy Week!

Hey everyone! What the week we've had! Ha

So last time a wrote I was up North in Oulu, which was so much fun! After the meetings there, we went out with other missionaries and got dinner :) It was a blast! Then we trekked the five hour train ride home, just to go to bed.

The next day we had our Tampere Zone Conference. It was soo cool to compare the Oulu and Tampere conferences. It was really interesting to see how each got the same points across but the approach was so specific to the needs of the missionaries in each specific meeting. Such a cool experience, for sure.

On Wednesday we were back on another train on our way back up to Oulu! Ha Yep, twice in one week. Such a blast! I went on my first exchanges as an STL and it was sooo much fun! Seriously it was probably one of the funnest things! I loved it! It was sooo cool to work with the other sisters to see how they work and figure out how I can help them in their missionary work. I seriously felt like I learned soo much more from them than they could have ever learned from me. 

We've been insanely busy since we got back on Friday.So many people to visit and help bring them closer to the Lord! Its soo cool be a part of this awesome work!

Yesterday we went out to some member's homes who live in Valkeakoski (30 minutes outside of Tampere). With it being fall, we raked their leaves! It was so much fun! We got to spend time with the members and help them! So fun!

It was funny because we needed to change into our work clothes at one of the member's houses. When we got there we were told his wife wasn't home. So, we changed in the car. Ha it was quite the sight to see three Sister Missionaries changing in a tiny Toyota Yaris. BUT we successfully did it while maintaining full levels of modesty. Ha what a sight to see! 

We are headed back to Helsinki in about an hour so next week's email should be full of adventures as well!

Terveisiä Oulusta!

So as I write this email I am currently sitting in the Oulu Chapel. Oulu is in the northern part of Finland, close to the Arctic Circle. We had MLC (Mission Leadership Conference) last Friday and Saturday in Helsinki and President informed us that since there aren't Oulu Sister Training Leaders anymore (and since we are now over the North Zone), we are supposed to be at all North Zone meetings. So we got back to Tampere from Helsinki late Saturday night, went to church on Sunday and then right after church we packed again and went on another train up to Oulu (about a seven hour train ride)! So we've had a fantastic day of meetings and wisdom from President! We don't really have a P-day because of it, but that's okay! We got to go on a trip for our P-day this week :) Every missionary's dream right?? Ha

 

Since this week was MLC, it was so fun to go and spend time in the Mission Home with all the other leaders of the mission. It was really quite freaky when all the STL's, ZL's, DL's and AP's were all sitting there and President Watson says "This is all of the leadership for all of the missionary efforts and work for the entire country of Finland... It was a little insane.. But such a great exprience.

 

Also the BEST part of MLC was the fact that we got to go to the Temple on Friday. It had been about 10 months since I had last been to the temple and it was such an amazing experience. I was sooo incredibly grateful for that experience. I was sooo blessed with a feeling of peace and being able to feel my Heavenly Father's love for me and for all of his children. It was such an amazing experience. I am soooo grateful for it.

 

This past week has been absolutely insane and so busy. We haven't been in our area very much, but luckily Heavenly Father is truly blessing us as we strive to do our best. We've seen soooo many miracles and just soo many amazing things happen that we know are a direct correlation to us serving and doing our best with what we have. It has been truly amazing.

 

I love you all soo much! Thank you for all your support! I'm sorry I don't have a ton of time to write today, but our train is leaving soon. Just know that I love you all soooo much! You are the best!

Another Week in the Life

Hey Everyone!

This week was such a blast! We've been sooo busy again and it's great! We've been teaching our wonderful recent converts and it's just great! 

This week we had a little bit of a different expirence. Since this is Sister Clark's last transfer, she went down to Espoo (Helsinki) for the day to do this "My Plan" thingy. It's really just a day meeting where you talk about going home and setting goals and such and then they have you go right back to work and not focus on home. I'm not too excited for when its my turn. BUT with her down in Espoo, Sister DuPaix and I were left to man our area by ourselves. Now we have only been here about a week and it was pretty crazy.. BUT no worries everyone! We made it to our apointments and talked to a lot of people WITHOUT getting lost once or even taking the wrong bus. I would say that it was pretty impressive. Ha

It was also fun because we had Sister Parker, who's serving in Vaasa, come and be with us for the day, since her companion was also at the meeting. So it was just such a blast! We had so much fun!

We had one of the best lessons I've ever had on my mission yesterday. We found this new investigator and he just was very blunt about not wanting to join any other church because he truly believes in his. So, as we were talking to him and testifying of our message, we could just feel the spirit right there along with us testifying to him as well. We watched his heart soften sooo much in the half hour that we were with him and it was just a testimony to me that as we prepare and boldly testify with love, the Lord will guide us to know what to say and that His Spirit will be there right along with us. It was truly amazing! And THEN as we were saying our closing prayer (which he didn't want to participate in), HIS WIFE (who doesn't want to learn), actually participated in our prayer instead. WHAT A MIRACLE! I can't accurately describe just how amazing this lesson actually was, but really it was one of those amazing missionary moments that I will never forget!

Also Genreal Conference was practically the best thing ever! So many powerful meetings! I really learned just so much from it. It really was sooo greattt!

And Week One in Tampere has Begun!‏

Holy cow! I'm seriously just exhausted (but in the absolute best way ever!). It has been an amazing week! I came into the Tampere area on Wednesday and we had a baptism on Saturday, we've just been so busy!

This area is absolutely on fire! In the past six months we've had seven baptisms here! Its sooo cool! I absolutely adore it here and all the people we are working with are absolutely amazing!

Soooo Sister Clark and I started our companionship by going to Espoo (Helsinki) to get our trainee! Her name is Sister DuPaix (Dupei) (sorry, but I only know how to spell it using Finnish pronunciations) AND she is absolutely adorable! She's from Wisconsin and she's one of the greatest! (Obviously she has to be with how crazy of a training situation she has in our trio!) She's amazing! Sister Clark and I are sooo blessed to have her!

Sister Clark is a great companion as well! She's from Utah and we get along way well! It's so fun to be able to learn the ropes from her! She's really a FANTASTIC missionary and I am sooo glad I've got a transfer with her! 

Tampere is such a fantastic city! It is very different from Kuopio but it's really so adorable! I finally get to live all the excitement that Sister Crofts would tell me about :) SOO STOKED! 

Honestly this week has been a huge adjustment week, and it has been insanely busy! But after looking at our schedule, this is probably the calmest time until our next transfer! Yay! ha It's fun! I'm super excited for this next little bit!

TRANSFERS!!‏

Well everybody, ITS TRANSFER WEEK! I'm heartbroken to say that I will not be staying in Kuopio any more :( I'm headed to Tampere to be a Sister Training Leader with Sister Clark! I'm super excited! Sister Clark and I will also be training a new missionary this transfer! So I will definitely be kept busy these next couple of months! And my current companion, Sister Bradbury, is going to Jyväskylä, so that means that I am going to be her Sister Training Leader! YAY! My dad also served in Tampere for three month on his mission.

I am so sad that I won't be here in Kuopio any longer. Even though I was only here for one transfer I have grown to love this place with all my heart! It is truly such an amazingly adorable little town and I can't wait to come back and visit :) 

But this week on top of transfers was so crazy! On Wednesday, we were off to Mikkeli for a Zone Meeting. It was so much fun! My district and I got there like two hours early so we went to the Mikkeli Lutheran Church and got a tour by one of the Priests that works there! THAT WAS COOL! One of the coolest things about Finland and I guess Europe in general, is the amazing old churches they have. So we walked around for a while there and I took a few pictures.

We then had our zone meeting and President Watson was there. He ended up extending the meeting an hour because he wanted to talk with us and none of us had trains leaving for a couple of hours. So that was a way fun experience to have. It's always so great to hear from the President.

We went to Varkaus this weekend and we went contacting in the Center. Now in Varkaus, there is like nooooo body. But we did find five people and we handed out a Book of Mormon, which is probably the first book that has been passed out there in like ten years since they pulled missionaries. So that was cool! And it was so fun to be serving in a place where my Dad served 30 years before! 

Yesterday we had our last church meeting here in Kuopio, which was heartbreaking! The members here are so fantastic! Luckily some of them promised to show me a savu sauna (smoke sauna) when I come back :) I'm excited! Ha

Also, yesterday this lady we have been serving had us over for dinner with her and her family. It was such a fantastic time. We've grown to love them all sooo much and it was so heartbreaking to say goodbye. They have all changed so much and we have been blessed to become part of their family. The kids refer to me as Sister Jones-täti (Aunt Sister Jones) :) Seriously, it's adorable. I love them sooo much!

Now Sister Bradbury and I are in full panic-packing mode! It's going to be a crazy next couple of days with all the meetings that we have going on. But I'm excited to start this new adventure and even thought I feel completely inadequate, I know that the Lord qualifies those he calls... So here's to the craziest adventure so far!
